About Us

The American Research Universities – Human Resource Institute recognizes the leadership and management complexities related to the size and scope of its affiliated universities. The ARU-HR Institute is organized and operated for the purpose of:

  • Providing a forum for professional relationships among CHROs who are responsible for the nation’s most complex universities.
  • Assembling the CHROs of these universities and other academicians in the corporate, public and university sectors for advanced executive development, exposure and opportunities.
  • Elevating the human resources discourse and leadership effectiveness of the nation’s major research universities.

History

The ARU-HRI was formed in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) organization of the chief human resource officers from R-1, AAU affiliated institutions. The original purpose for the group was to host an annual conference for CHROs to be able to meet, learn together, and share best practices. Over time, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic as our member organizations shifted to remote work, the group expanded its focus to include more varied programming and ongoing sharing of key information.
